Paulhac mobilizes around Margaux, 4 years old, suffering from infiltrating glioma cancer of the brain stem.
Margaux is a bubbly, creative and curious 4-year-old girl with a great thirst for learning. At the end of last summer, repeated falls and extreme fatigue led his parents, Géraldine and Stéphane, to consult. The diagnosis was made: an infiltrating glioma of the brainstem (GITC), a rare and aggressive pediatric cancer, which impairs breathing, motor skills and many vital functions. “It’s a very hard reality to hear and this illness has disrupted our entire daily life,” confide the parents. “For her and her brother Paul, we put our careers on hold in order to be fully available.”
At the Gustave Roussy Institute and the Oncopole
Margaux is currently benefiting from a clinical trial, Biomede 2.0, carried out at the Gustave Roussy Institute in Villejuif. It consists of taking a daily treatment, in addition to radiotherapy sessions (30 sessions over 6 weeks at the Oncopole in Toulouse). “The last two MRIs show encouraging signs of regression of the tumor, rejoice Géraldine and Stéphane. This is a source of immense hope for us, even if, with this disease, caution remains in order.”
Today, Margaux attends nursery school at the Paulhac school, with a flexible timetable. But every day is different, and his physical condition does not always allow him to attend regularly. However, she demonstrates a courage that impresses her parents: “She is very autonomous, already very mature; she is our strength and gives us the necessary momentum to move forward.”
Act and keep hope: this is the line of conduct of Géraldine and Stéphane, who created the association “Demain, plus loin avec Margaux”. It meets a triple objective: to offer their little girl a gentler daily life to continue dreaming, laughing and living; support other families affected by the disease; and contribute, through donations, to the financing of research programs on the GITC.
A fight that unites the energies around the family: “We thank infinitely all those who support us and help us: friends, neighbors, the mayor Nathalie Raoux, the educational and medical team, the village associations, the businesses. Many projects are in preparation, in particular a solidarity trail on October 25 in Paulhac. This outpouring of solidarity around Margaux touches us deeply.”
