Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man Premiere Celebrated with Birmingham Tram

Ahead of the world premiere of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man in Birmingham, series creator Steven Knight was honored with a tram named in his recognition, featuring a striking image of Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby.

A Tribute to Birmingham and the Peaky Blinders Legacy

Knight expressed his pride in his home city, calling the tram a “surreal” and “great” honor. The tram’s design prominently features Murphy in his iconic Tommy Shelby attire, alongside the message “Home of the Peaky Blinders,” celebrating the show’s strong connection to the region.

The West Midlands Combined Authority recognized Knight’s commitment to championing Birmingham and the West Midlands through his work, as well as his support for the region’s film industry, including Digbeth Loc Studios. West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker highlighted Knight’s role in putting Birmingham back on the world stage and emphasized a shared ambition to establish the region as a leading hub for film and TV production.

Emotional Impact and Filming Location

Knight shared that early reactions to The Immortal Man have been deeply emotional, with many viewers moved to tears – a response the filmmakers intentionally aimed for. He too noted a shift in filming locations, with the movie being shot extensively in Birmingham itself, a departure from previous series installments that utilized locations in the north.

The expansion of the Metro network will soon bring trams past the Black Country Living Museum, a location previously used as a set for the Peaky Blinders series.

A Fitting Recognition

Knight joins other prominent West Midlands figures, including Ozzy Osbourne, Jasper Carrott, and Cyrille Regis, in having a tram named in their honor. He was enthusiastic about the tram’s graphics, stating he was surprised by how well it turned out and immediately planned to share a photo with Cillian Murphy upon his arrival in Birmingham.

Release Details

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is scheduled for release in select cinemas on March 6, 2026, and will be available on Netflix on March 20, 2026.
