Pedestrian Airlifted to Hospital After Being Struck by Vehicle Near Oran, Missouri
ORAN, Mo. – A 44-year-traditional man from Sikeston, Missouri, was airlifted to a St. Louis hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. On Missouri Highway 77, approximately 0.25 miles south of Oran, Missouri.
Details of the Incident
According to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 27-year-old woman from Sikeston was driving a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica northbound on MO-77 when she failed to yield to the pedestrian. The pedestrian sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.
Emergency Response and Transport
Emergency crews, including Scott County Sheriff’s deputies, the Oran Fire Protection District, and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, responded to the scene. Due to the severity of the pedestrian’s injuries, Air Evac helicopter was dispatched to transport him to a hospital in St. Louis. The helicopter landed at Oran High School, which was determined to be the nearest safe landing zone.
School Operations Unaffected
Scott County Sheriff Derick Wheetley confirmed that no students or staff were involved in the incident. Oran R-3 School District leaders too assured the community that it was safe for staff and students to attend classes on Wednesday, and disruptions to the school day were not anticipated. The Oran Fire Protection District stated the high school parking lot was utilized for the medical helicopter landing due to its proximity and safety.
