Pendleton Welcomes Blue Mountain Veterinary Clinic, Addressing Local Animal Care Needs

PENDLETON, OR – January 8, 2026 – Pendleton’s animal community has a new resource for veterinary care with the recent opening of Blue Mountain veterinary Clinic. Founded by Dr. Tori Mathews, the clinic initially operates as a mobile service, bringing care directly to pet owners while plans for a permanent facility are underway.
A lifelong Passion for Animal Welfare
Dr. Mathews’ dedication to veterinary medicine began in childhood. Growing up in Walla Walla, Washington, she always had a strong affinity for animals and a clear career path. “When I was about 5,I just decided I wanted to be a vet,” Mathews said. Her early experiences,including volunteering at Animal Clinic East and the Blue Mountain Humane Society in Walla Walla,solidified her commitment to animal care.
Extensive Education and Experience
Dr. Mathews pursued her education with a Bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University before expanding her training internationally. She completed internships in South Africa and ultimately earned her veterinary degree from the University of Melbourne in Australia, drawn by the program’s similarities to those in the United States. Prior to opening Blue Mountain Veterinary Clinic, she worked as an associate veterinarian at Riverside Veterinary Clinic in pendleton.
Mobile Veterinary Services and Future expansion
Currently, Blue Mountain Veterinary Clinic provides mobile veterinary services, allowing Dr. Mathews to treat animals in the comfort of their own homes. She and her husband, Robin, are actively working to establish a permanent clinic location in Pendleton. “It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time,” mathews stated, emphasizing her entrepreneurial spirit.
Addressing a Local Need
Recognizing a shortage of veterinary professionals in the area, Dr. Mathews aims to expand her practice to include a team of skilled professionals. She plans to hire an assistant or technician as soon as a temporary clinic space is secured, with the goal of adding another veterinarian within a couple of years.
Preventative Care and Community outreach
Blue Mountain Veterinary clinic is committed to promoting animal health through preventative care. Dr. Mathews plans to host low-cost spay and neuter clinics twice a year, as well as regular vaccine clinics. This focus on preventative medicine is particularly important given the high incidence of parvovirus in the Pendleton area.American Veterinary Medical Association – Canine Parvovirus. Parvovirus is a highly contagious and potentially fatal disease, especially dangerous for puppies.
Focus on Small Animals
For the time being, blue Mountain Veterinary Clinic will focus on providing care for small animals, including dogs and cats. Services currently offered include wound care,check-ups,and vaccinations. More complex procedures and emergency care will be available once the clinic is established in a permanent facility.
“I just want to do my best for everyone,” Mathews said. “It’s not just for the money,but I want to help where I can.”
