Philadelphia 76ers Beat New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden
The New York Knicks celebrated their first championship banner in 53 years before a crowd of 19,000 fans at Madison Square Garden, only to watch the Philadelphia 76ers spoil the opening night with a 106-100 victory, as reported by jornada.com.mx. Before the opening tip-off, base Jalen Brunson received his championship ring from Walt Frazier, the leader of the franchise’s last title team in 1973, while celebrities including Spike Lee and Ben Stiller looked on. The festive atmosphere dissolved as Philadelphia unveiled its newly formed trio featuring LeBron James, Joel Embiid, and Jaylen Brown.
Playing in his 24th NBA season at nearly 42 years old, LeBron James recorded 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists in his debut with the Sixers. Fue una gran noche para los aficionados de Nueva York, fueron más de 50 años,
James said after the game, acknowledging the historic venue. Tyrese Maxey led Philadelphia with 28 points, while Jaylen Brown added 19 and Joel Embiid contributed 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Knicks Fall Short Despite Brunson and Towns
Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns paced the New York offense with 21 and 19 points respectively, carrying the load on a night when the home team struggled with shooting consistency. The Knicks built advantages of more than 10 points in the first half. Philadelphia chipped away at the deficit throughout the evening, pulling within one point at the end of the third quarter on a buzzer-beater by Brown. In the final period, the Sixers pulled away permanently despite late efforts from Towns and reserve José Alvarado.
The defeat leaves New York chasing a historical benchmark: no team has successfully repeated as NBA champion since the Golden State Warriors won titles in 2016-17 and 2017-18.
