Pierre Queval Brings Silent Film to Life on a Historic Stolz Organ
According to event organizers, the afternoon begins with a screening of a short documentary about the local instrument produced this year by Pierre Bleue. Following the film, Pierre Queval will take the bench at the town’s historic Stolz organ, which was originally built in 1860, acquired by the local parish, and subsequently restored and expanded between 2011 and 2014.
Queval, born in 1988 and trained at the CNSMD in Paris, serves as the titular organist of the grand organ at the Church of Saint-Ignace in Paris. He also teaches at the CRR in Amiens and the CRD in Saint-Quentin, maintaining an active international touring schedule across France, Europe, and the United States.

The performance utilizes technical upgrades installed at the church in 2024, which include video equipment that films and broadcasts the organist’s performance in real time onto a large screen in the church chancel. This setup allows audiences to watch the artist’s hands navigate two manuals and registration stops, alongside footwork on the pedalboard controlling the lowest bass pipes.
According to local cultural reports, this visual feed transforms passive listening into an active viewing experience. The screening features the 2004 restored version of Buster Keaton’s 1923 feature The Three Ages, a burlesque film weaving together three parallel love stories set across different historical eras.
