Pimax Spation Compact Gaming PC Launches With AMD Ryzen 9800X3D and RX 9070 XT Hardware
Pimax has announced the Spation, a console-like compact gaming PC built with powerful internal hardware to power its next-generation virtual reality headsets, according to reports. Resembling a hybrid of an Xbox Series X and a Steam Machine, the system packs an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor alongside an AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics card, matching that setup with 32GB of DDR5 RAM.
Unlike lower-powered living room systems that rely on mobile graphics chips to cut costs, the Pimax Spation targets the enthusiast tier. The base specification includes 1TB of NVMe storage, with larger capacity options expected at launch. Buyers looking for alternative graphics configurations can also select an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, though those cards add at least $300 to the build cost.
Spation features high speed ports and QLED displays
The compact chassis houses extensive networking and peripheral ports. The Spation features 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth LE 5.4 for wireless connectivity. Display output options consist of two DisplayPort 2.1 ports and a single HDMI 2.1 port. Additional peripheral connections include a mix of USB-A and USB-C ports capable of USB4 speeds.
Pimax is positioning the desktop to run its new Crystal Pro headset, which features Mini LED QLED displays with a resolution of 5,760 by 2,880 pixels. The headset supports a 120Hz refresh rate and incorporates more than 1,150 local dimming zones.
Crystal Pro costs $1,399 before 2027 shipping
Pimax has not yet disclosed official pricing or a specific release date for the Spation hardware. Meanwhile, the accompanying Crystal Pro headset carries a base price of $1,399. Hands-on demonstrations for the hardware are scheduled for the fourth quarter of this year, ahead of a planned shipping window in early 2027.
