Google Pixel 10a: Android 16 Launch and ‘Stallion’ Codename Revealed
Google has released factory images for the Pixel 10a, confirming its launch with Android 16. The mid-range device, codenamed “stallion,” continues Google’s racehorse-themed naming convention for Pixel phones.
Factory Images Now Available
Two builds are currently available: 16.0.0 (BD6A.251031.001.A4, March 2026), representing the out-of-the-box software, and 16.0.0 (CP1A.260305.018, March 2026), which is the day one Android 16 QPR3 update with the March 2026 security patch. These images allow users to restore a software-damaged phone to its original factory firmware, though Google recommends sideloading the full OTA image for a typically easier and safer process.
Pixel Codename Lineup
The “stallion” codename for the Pixel 10a adds to the existing lineup:
- Pixel 10: “frankel”
- Pixel 10 Pro: “blazer”
- Pixel 10 Pro XL: “mustang”
- Pixel 10 Pro Fold: “rango”
Android Beta Program Support
Currently, the Pixel 10a is not yet eligible for the Android Beta Program. Support is anticipated with Android 17 Beta 3 later this month.
The release of these factory images signifies the official launch of the Pixel 10a and provides users with the tools to manage their device’s software effectively.
