Plano Restaurant Health Inspections: Cockroaches and Rodents Found in Recent Checks

Nizam’s Biryaniwala Closure and Inspection Score

According to the City of Plano inspection records cited by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Nizam’s Biryaniwala remained closed following an initial shutdown on July 30. During that initial visit, inspectors discovered more than 20 live cockroaches and approximately 100 dead ones.

When health authorities returned for a follow-up inspection on August 14, the restaurant scored 61 points on Plano's 100-point inspection scale.

Rodent Activity and Pest Infestations at Thai Jasmine

Thai Jasmine Thai Cuisine, located at 2050 W. Spring Creek Parkway, received an inspection score of 83 after health inspectors documented multiple sanitation breaches. According to the city reports, inspectors discovered rodent droppings inside containers of dry spices and more than 20 dead cockroaches scattered throughout the kitchen. Additional dead cockroaches were found directly inside an employee handwashing sink.

Other Plano eateries also recorded pest-related violations during the mid-August review period. Rajula’s Kitchen, located at 820 W. Spring Creek Parkway, earned an 87 score after an inspector found a small cockroach-like insect on the floor of the rear preparation area. The Gyro Shop, situated at 6909 Coit Road, received a score of 91 after inspectors located five dead cockroaches on the premises.

The City of Plano evaluates food service establishments on a 100-point scale, where a score of 100 represents a flawless inspection and a score of 70 indicates severe non-compliance. Restaurants in the city typically undergo between one and four routine inspections each year.

City records show that five additional businesses scored below 80 points during the August 2 to August 15 inspection cycle:

• Fang’s Wok, located at 3309 Coit Road
• Café Mozart Bakery, located at 2070 W. Spring Creek Parkway
• Indopak Supermarket, located at 2060 W. Spring Creek Parkway
• Kabab Darbar, located at 3825 W. Spring Creek Parkway
• New Orleans Crab Shack, located at 901 W. Spring Creek Parkway

While low scores highlight critical code violations, municipal records indicate that Nizam’s Biryaniwala is the only establishment among the group facing an active administrative order requiring it to stay shut until health officials grant clearance. The remaining businesses with low scores or pest findings were cited for their infractions without receiving mandatory closure directives in the published logs.
