Plovdiv Theological Seminary Offers Alternative Path to Secondary Education

Against the backdrop of increasing competition among elite high schools in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, more parents are prioritizing education and character development over simply obtaining a prestigious diploma. The Plovdiv Theological Seminary “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” is emerging as an alternative to conventional high schools, offering a unique approach to secondary education for boys entering seventh grade.

A Focus on Holistic Development

The seminary combines standard secondary education, approved by the Ministry of Education and Science, with specialized training designed to foster critical thinking, character, and confidence. Students study four languages – including English, German, and French – alongside advanced history, church singing, apologetics, and liturgy.

Boarding and Values-Based Environment

The Plovdiv Theological Seminary provides free boarding for students, funded by the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. Accommodation, meals, and training are provided at a high standard, with opportunities for sports and an active lifestyle. The school emphasizes discipline, respect, ethics, and moral values, aiming to shape mature and well-rounded individuals.

Resources and Opportunities

Students have access to a modern library, computer labs, and participate in cultural events and pilgrimages to holy places both within Bulgaria and abroad.

Admission Requirements

To apply, prospective students must submit the following documents:

  • Application to the rector
  • Orthodox baptism certificate
  • Certificate of completed primary education
  • Recommendation from a clergyman
  • Medical certificate
  • Curriculum Vitae

Documents can be submitted in person at the seminary office, by post, or via email to info-1690187@edu.mon.bg. The seminary holds open days every Saturday for parents and prospective students to learn more about the school’s environment and curriculum.

A Different Perspective

The Plovdiv Theological Seminary presents an alternative to traditional high schools, focusing on intellectual and moral foundations. As noted by Lost in Plovdiv, the school offers a different perspective on secondary education.
