Pokémon Go players will have the chance to encounter the Ice- and Dragon-type Pokémon Frigibax in increased numbers during an upcoming Community Day event. Niantic has confirmed the event will feature boosted shiny rates, exclusive moves, and various gameplay bonuses designed to aid trainers in collecting and evolving the Pseudo-legendary species.
Event Schedule and Shiny Encounters
The Frigibax Community Day takes place on Sunday, June 20, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time, according to official Niantic announcements. During this three-hour window, Frigibax will appear more frequently in the wild.
Following the established precedent for Community Day events, the shiny rate for the featured Pokémon is significantly increased. Historically, this rate sits at approximately 1 in 24, according to data analysis from the community-driven research group The Silph Road. Trainers looking to optimize their time can utilize Incense and Lure Modules, which will remain active for three hours during the event. Even after the primary event concludes, Lure Modules will persist for an additional four hours, and Incense spawns will continue until 9 p.m. local time.
Evolving Baxcalibur and the Glaive Rush Move
Trainers who evolve Arctibax into Baxcalibur between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. local time on the day of the event will receive the exclusive Charged Attack, Glaive Rush.
If players miss this window, they generally have two options to obtain the move:
- Elite TMs: These items allow players to teach a Pokémon a legacy move at any time.
- December Community Day: Niantic typically hosts a recap event in December where previous Community Day moves become available through evolution.
Strategic Value in Raids and PvP
Baxcalibur serves as a viable competitor in both PvE and PvP environments, though its utility varies by format. In PvE, it functions as a potent Ice-type attacker when equipped with Ice Fang and Avalanche. While it operates as a capable Dragon-type attacker, it faces stiff competition from established meta-relevant Pokémon such as Origin Forme Palkia, Origin Forme Dialga, and the Kyurem variants.
In the Master League, Baxcalibur finds a niche with a moveset of Dragon Breath, Glaive Rush, and Avalanche. Because Baxcalibur has not yet received a Mega Evolution in the core series games, players may want to retain high-IV specimens for future updates, as Mega-evolved forms typically provide significant boosts to base stats.
Event Bonuses
Beyond increased spawns, trainers will benefit from several gameplay perks throughout the event:
- Catch Bonuses: Triple Stardust and double Candy for catching Pokémon.
- XL Candy: Trainers level 31 and above receive a doubled chance to earn Candy XL from catches.
- Trading: One additional Special Trade is permitted, and the Stardust cost for trades is halved.
- Photobombs: Taking snapshots during the event may trigger a surprise encounter with Frigibax.
To maximize Candy gains, trainers should consider Mega Evolving Pokémon that share a type with Frigibax, such as Charizard X, Rayquaza, or Salamence. Mega Evolving a Pokémon of the same type provides an additional Candy bonus for every successful catch.
