Armed Ambush at Slochterstraat Home Foiled by Alert Neighbor
A female resident of Sappemeer returning home from her job at a café in Groningen faced an ambush by three men outside her residence on Slochterstraat during the night of February 4 to 5, according to RTV Noord. Three masked men grabbed the victim and threatened her with a firearm at approximately 2:15 a.m. The attack was cut short when a neighbor intervened, causing the assailants to flee the scene before they could complete the robbery.

In the night spanning January 3 to 4, 2025, the woman was traveling home to Sappemeer with her cousin at around 1:30 a.m. when a Nissan Qashqai rammed the rear of their vehicle on Rijksweg Oost. Perpetrators wearing balaclavas emerged from the Nissan, battered the windows, and attempted to force the car doors open. The driver managed to accelerate and escape.
According to Menterwolde.info, the gray Nissan Qashqai used in the January 2025 incident was stolen just before Christmas 2024 from Verlengde Hereweg in Groningen, while its license plates were stolen in early January 2025 from Goeman Borgesiuslaan. Authorities later recovered the vehicle ablaze further down Rijksweg Oost. A witness reported seeing several men walking toward the Hoogezand-Sappemeer carpool lot shortly afterward, allegedly speaking Arabic among themselves.
Tankshop Robbery Investigation in Hoogezand
The television broadcast of Crime Watch featured the Sappemeer investigations alongside a separate armed robbery that targeted a gas station shop in Hoogezand on June 4, 2026, Menterwolde.info reported. A female employee at the tankshop stood face-to-face with an armed robber at approximately 6:45 a.m. who pointed a firearm at her head and demanded cash register funds. Security footage indicates the suspect may be left-handed.

Law enforcement officials have not yet determined whether the same group of perpetrators or an overlapping crew carried out both attacks against the Sappemeer resident, Menterwolde.info noted. Because very few individuals knew the victim’s residential address, investigators operate on the theory that the assailants monitored her movements prior to the February 2026 ambush.
