Ludhiana Ayurvedic Doctor Reaches Everest Base Camp Despite Polio Diagnosis

Dr. Rupinder Kaur, an Ayurvedic doctor from Ludhiana, Punjab, has achieved a remarkable feat by reaching the Everest Base Camp. Her journey is particularly inspiring as she is a wheelchair user and a polio survivor, demonstrating the power of determination in overcoming significant physical challenges.

Dr. Kaur, who works as an Ayurveda Medical Officer at PHC Jodhan in Ludhiana, completed the expedition with a group of six differently abled individuals organized by the Tinkesh Ability Foundation (TAF). She was the sole participant from Punjab. The group returned from the challenging trek on April 14, 2026.

Overcoming Adversity

Diagnosed with polio at four months classic, Dr. Kaur has faced physical limitations throughout her life, experiencing 65% deformity in both legs. Despite this, she pursued her education, earning a Bachelor of Ayurveda Medical and Surgery from Moga. She emphasizes that the constant support of her family was crucial in fostering the courage to pursue her dreams.

“The founder Tinkesh himself is a triple amputee while others had disabilities in legs, arms, knees etc.,” Dr. Kaur shared with The Tribune. “At 4 months old, polio afflicted, but constant support of my family provided me courage to fulfil my dreams.”

Dr. Kaur’s accomplishment is not only a personal milestone but also a message of hope and resilience for others facing obstacles. She believes that strength lies in pushing boundaries and exploring the world beyond limitations, rather than seeking sympathy. Her story has garnered recognition from local officials, including Satnam Singh, a resident of Ward No. 58, who expressed pride in her achievement on Facebook, noting her father’s name is Major Singh.

Dr. Kaur also maintains an Instagram account where she shares her journey and inspires her 369 followers.
