Second Miecznik-Class Frigate Keel laid in Poland
The keel laying for the second miecznik-class frigate took place at PGZ Stocznia Wojenna in Gdynia. The shipyard reports this marks another significant milestone in Poland’s largest current shipbuilding project.
The frigate, named “Burza” (Storm), is the second of three multi-purpose frigates planned under the Miecznik program. Along with sister ships “Wicher” (Wind) and “Huragan” (Hurricane), it will replace the decommissioned ORP “Gen. K. Pułaski” and ORP “Gen. T. Kościuszko” frigates. These new vessels are designed to bolster the Polish Navy’s capabilities in air defense, as well as anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, making them a crucial component of Poland’s naval modernization.
The Miecznik program aims to provide the Polish Navy with modern, capable frigates. These ships will considerably enhance Poland’s maritime security and regional defense posture. Construction is proceeding according to schedule, with deliveries expected in the coming years. Navy Recognition provides further details on the program.
