Pomeranian Colon adopted by family in Osaka after shelter stay

A six-year-old Pomeranian named Colon has found a new home with a three-generation family in Osaka after an initial stay at the ANIFARE Osaka animal shelter in Moriguchi, maidonanews.jp reported. The dog, who arrived at the shelter after losing her previous home, was adopted after a visitor fell in love with her appearance.

Arrival at the Dainichi Shelter

Colon is a female Pomeranian who spent the first six years and six months of her life with a family before losing her living arrangement. She was housed at the ANIFARE Osaka dainichi shelter in Moriguchi City, Osaka Prefecture, according to the shelter’s Instagram account (@anifare_osaka). Staff members reported that Colon initially showed severe wariness when people approached her.

During her first days at the facility, Colon would freeze and look away when handlers came near. Although she allowed herself to be touched, staff noted that approaching her too quickly caused her to bare her teeth in self-defense. Handlers adapted their routine to accommodate her fear, ensuring they approached her from below rather than reaching down from above, and taking extra time during tasks like diaper changes to keep her calm.

Colon becomes affectionate as she feels secure

As handlers maintained gentle, slow interactions, Colon’s behavior shifted. The shelter reported that she eventually began wagging her tail at meal times and initiating play.

Staff observed Colon standing on her hind legs to demand attention, licking their hands and arms, and engaging in games of tag. Shelter workers noted that her affectionate responses revealed a dog who strongly desired human companionship once she felt secure in her environment.

Adoption by a Three-Generation Family

Colon’s stay at the shelter ended when a local family visited the facility. According to the shelter representative, the family’s father fell in love with the dog immediately upon seeing her face, deciding instantly to adopt her without looking at other animals.

Colon now lives primarily with the father who adopted her. When he is away, she stays at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, meaning the dog is cared for across three generations of the same family, including their grandchildren. The shelter updated its social media followers with the news that Colon’s adoption had been finalized following the father’s visit.
