Pony Canyon has released the first teaser trailer for To You in the Beyond, an anime feature film set to open in theaters across Japan on October 9, 2026.
Based on the novel by Akiko Abe, winner of the 22nd Honya Taisho Award, the coming-of-age story centers on the complex emotions and hidden secrets of boys and girls. The property has drawn attention on TikTok and is now being adapted for the screen.
The story is set in 1974. The teaser introduces Kazuki Tsukigase, a high school boy with a hidden secret, and Nanao, a mysterious girl discovered collapsed on a beach, set against the landscapes of Tokishima Island. Scenes of school life and their encounter unfold alongside Tota’s vocals.
Directed by Junichi Wada, known for the HIGH CARD series, and written by Sayaka Kuwamura, whose credits include Strobe Edge and Josee, the Tiger and the Fish, the film features character design and chief animation direction by Hechima. Animation production is handled by TMS Entertainment. Distribution is by Shochiku.
The film includes the insert song “Balsam” by singer-songwriter Tota. His single “Tsumugu” has surpassed 140 million streams and topped the Billboard Japan Heatseekers Songs chart for five consecutive weeks.
