Homegrown Singapore patisserie LUNA will close its doors on December 31, 2026, ending a run marked by its signature intricate cakes and tarts. According to a September 28 Instagram announcement, the brand cited escalating operational and ingredient costs, alongside shifting consumer patterns that made sustainable operation increasingly challenging.
Rising Costs Drive December Closure
A LUNA spokesperson told The Straits Times that rising operational and ingredient costs made it unsustainable to continue running the brand. CNA Lifestyle reported that changing consumer patterns and spending habits further compounded these pressures, prompting the team to abandon plans for a new physical space.
LUNA opened its first physical store on Amoy Street in 2020 just before pandemic disruptions reshaped the local food and beverage industry, later vacating that location in 2025. The brand subsequently expanded its reach by launching Lucine by LUNA at 111 Somerset in 2024. Despite initial hopes to shift operations online after closing its physical store, leadership determined that bringing the brand to a complete close was the most pragmatic path forward. “It was not an easy decision, but we feel this is the right time to close this chapter while we can do so on our own terms,” the spokesperson told The Straits Times.
Future of Lucine by LUNA and Farewell Offerings
While LUNA prepares to wind down operations, Lucine remains unaffected. The LUNA spokesperson confirmed that Lucine will continue to operate independently at 111 Somerset under its existing mall lease agreement. Customers can continue purchasing LUNA’s cakes online and at the Lucine outlet until the final closure date.
Ahead of December 31, 2026, the patisserie is bringing back crowd favourites and classic creations, alongside special Christmas offerings, giving patrons one last chance to order items such as its popular orh nee cake. The brand also noted on Instagram that it is open to hearing from anyone interested in carrying the business forward.
“To everyone who has ordered, celebrated, returned, recommended, and believed in us – thank you,” the patisserie shared in its social media statement. “We’ll always be grateful that you gave LUNA a place in your lives.”
