Porsche Extends Modern Infotainment to 300,000 Older Sports Cars

Porsche is bringing wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to more than 300,000 older sports cars built between 2009 and 2016 through an expanded factory infotainment upgrade.

The updated Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus system integrates directly into the dashboards of the 997.2 and 991.1 generations of the 911. It also covers the 987.2 and 981 generations of the Boxster and Cayman.

Hardware Designed to Match Original Dashboard Aesthetics

The upgrade features a 7-inch high-resolution touchscreen engineered to fit the original radio slot of vintage sports cars without altering the classic interior aesthetic.

Beyond smartphone mirroring, the system includes Bluetooth connectivity and 4G network compatibility through a nano SIM card. It also offers over-the-air wireless map updates.

Deep Integration with Factory Vehicle Electronics

Because the hardware is built specifically for these vehicles, the unit connects directly to the original car electronics.

Owners can manage audio and navigation functions through factory multi-function steering wheels where equipped. The system also supports factory parking sensors. Additionally, it displays oil temperature and pressure levels on trip information screens.

Scenic Route Navigation Tailored for Collectors

The updated navigation software incorporates a “Scenic Roads” function alongside standard routing options. This feature allows drivers to select more picturesque and winding roads rather than defaulting to the fastest or shortest path.

Porsche offers the installation service directly through its official dealership network. The targeted vehicles represent a sought-after era for collectors, encompassing the final naturally aspirated Carrera models for the 911 alongside the last generation of Boxster and Cayman sports cars powered by standard six-cylinder engines before four-cylinder turbocharged alternatives became standard.
