Two Portland Shops Named Among Best in the U.S.

In a extensive report from the New York Times, two Portland shops were named among the 50 best clothing stores in the country.

Stand Up Comedy and Shop Boswell earned a place on the list, joining high-end boutiques nationwide.

The New York Times stated each business on the list is “distinctive and inspirational,” with most being small businesses. Selection criteria focused on four categories: menswear, womenswear, vintage, and specialty.

Shop Boswell, located at 729 SE Morrison Street, has expanded from handmade hats to include “everyday clothes from ‘it’ brands,” according to the New York Times.

Brookes Boswell launched the shop in 2016. Customers can still purchase Boswell’s hats, but will also find her curated selection of clothing reflecting a focus on “fine materials and customary construction techniques.”

Shop Boswell’s “About the Shop” page highlights Boswell’s skill in “pairing daily essentials with complimentary vintage gems that have stood the test of time and statement pieces by independent designers.”
