Prabowo Subianto Navigates US Tariffs, Gaza Reconstruction, and UK Tech Talks
Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is actively addressing a complex series of international issues, from potential impacts of a US Supreme Court ruling on global tariffs to Indonesia’s role in Gaza reconstruction and forging fresh technological partnerships in the United Kingdom. These developments follow closely on the heels of Prabowo’s meetings with US President Donald Trump.
Review of US Supreme Court Tariff Ruling
President Prabowo Subianto has directed his staff to assess the potential ramifications of the US Supreme Court’s recent decision regarding global tariff policy. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto conveyed this directive following discussions in Washington, D.C., on February 21, 2026. “Yesterday, we reported to the President, and he asked us to study all possible risks,” Hartarto stated as quoted by the Presidential Secretariat. The Indonesian government is preparing for various scenarios, having previously discussed the potential ruling with the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) prior to signing a trade agreement with the US.
Indonesia’s Role in Gaza Reconstruction and the International Stabilization Force
Indonesia’s participation in the International Stabilization Force (ISF) deploying to Gaza has been acknowledged by Palestinian authorities. Foreign Minister Sugiono reported that the Chair of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), Ali Shaath, understands Indonesia’s reasons for joining the US-led, multi-national force, which will consist of at least 20,000 troops. Sugiono noted Shaath’s presence at the Board of Peace meeting announcing the ISF mission as evidence of inclusive involvement in the peace process according to a virtual press statement on February 21, 2026. Indonesia has clarified that its troops will not participate in the disarmament or demilitarization of armed groups in Gaza.
Strategic Talks and Tech Partnership in the UK
Following his engagements in the United States, President Prabowo Subianto visited London, England, on February 23, 2026. He witnessed the signing of a framework agreement between Danantara Investment Management Agency and Arm Limited, a British semiconductor company. The Presidential Secretariat emphasized that Prabowo’s presence underscored the government’s commitment to technological advancement and innovation-based economic transformation in Indonesia as stated on February 24, 2026.
These developments highlight Indonesia’s active role in addressing critical global challenges and pursuing strategic partnerships for economic and technological growth.
