This weekend, Professor Dr. Bogdan Timar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Victor Babeș University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Timișoara, made a working visit to Bulgaria, aiming to strengthen regional collaboration and elevate the international standing of diabetology in Eastern Europe.1
Meeting with Professor Tsvetalina Tankova
During his visit to Sofia, Professor Timar met with Professor Tsvetalina Tankova, President of the Bulgarian Diabetes Society and Head of the Diabetes Department at the University Hospital of Endocrinology in Sofia.1 Professor Tankova is also a Professor of Endocrinology, DMedSc, and Vice Rector of the Medical University of Sofia.1
Sharing Expertise in Obesity and Diabetes Management
Professor Timar presented the organizational model of the Integrated Obesity Management Center in Timișoara, highlighting a modern, patient-centered approach to obesity care.1 The discussion focused on developing care for diabetes and obesity in the region, strengthening the international profile of diabetology in Eastern Europe, and exploring potential collaborations between the Romanian Society of Diabetes, Nutrition and Metabolic Diseases and the Bulgarian Diabetes Society.1

Professor Tsvetalina Tankova’s Contributions
Professor Tankova has authored over 240 peer-reviewed articles and delivered over 460 presentations at scientific meetings.1 She was a member of the writing group for the ADA/EASD Consensus report on the management of hyperglycemia in type 2 diabetes in 2022 and is an invited speaker at EASD postgraduate courses.1 She has specialized at WHO Collaborating Center, Geneva; King’s College Hospital, London; and Steno Diabetes Center, Copenhagen.1
