Puebla Gears Up for Annual “Torneo de los Barrios” Boxing Tournament in 2026

Puebla, Pue. – The city of Puebla is preparing to host its annual “Torneo de los Barrios” (Neighborhood Tournament) boxing competition, a tradition that continues to grow in popularity. This year’s tournament will kick off on Saturday, April 25th, with events extending through Sunday, April 26th.

Tournament Details and Registration

Ricardo Zayas Gallardo, director of the Municipal Sports Institute, announced the details of the tournament and extended an invitation to young athletes between the ages of 13 and 39 to participate. The competition has the technical endorsement of the Puebla Boxing Association (APOBA).

The initial bouts will be held in Parque del Carmen, with subsequent matches taking place in various neighborhoods and auxiliary boards throughout the capital city. The aim is to bring the sport of boxing to a wider range of communities within Puebla, according to Ricardo Zayas.

Increased Participation Expected

Organizers are hoping to surpass last year’s registration numbers, aiming for 500 boxers to participate in the 2026 edition, exceeding the 448 boxers who competed in the previous tournament.

Registration and Medical Requirements

Registration is free and will be open until Saturday, April 11th, at 11:00 a.m., with no extensions. Participants must meet the following requirements:

• Minimum age of 13 years.
• A medical certificate, valid for no more than five days, confirming physical fitness.
• Female participants must also provide proof of non-pregnancy and non-breastfeeding, also with a validity of no more than five days.

• Weigh-in and Medical Examination: Saturday, April 11th, starting at 7:30 a.m.
• Preliminary Meeting: Tuesday, April 21st, at 3:00 p.m. At the Municipal Sports Institute facilities.
• Tournament Start: Saturday, April 25th.

Prizes

Belts will be awarded to both the champion and runner-up in each weight category.
