Enzo Shahrvin will play college basketball for the Purdue Boilermakers during the 2026-27 season after the NCAA cleared his eligibility under its new age-based model, si.com reported on October 1, 2026. The 6-foot-8 forward from France joins head coach Matt Painter’s squad with precisely one year of eligibility remaining due to his professional experience overseas.
Purdue Announces Enzo Shahrvin NCAA Eligibility Clearance
Purdue men’s basketball players mobbed Shahrvin in celebration during a practice on Thursday, October 1, 2026, after director of operations Elliot Bloom announced the NCAA ruling, indystar.com reported. The program had awaited a decision since the spring because of stricter NCAA scrutiny regarding athletes whose professional earnings exceeded standard expense allowances. Shahrvin spent four years with Paris Basketball in the EuroCup and Betclic Elite League, averaging 2.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game across 18 appearances in the LNB Elite season, according to si.com. IndyStar reported his stats as 2.5 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 0.5 blocks across 11 games.
Matt Painter Prepares Physical Frontcourt Additions
Shahrvin arrived on campus prior to Purdue’s summer trip to Canada but could not compete in the four exhibition games while awaiting clearance, si.com noted. Boilermakers coach Matt Painter emphasized the need for greater physical toughness on the glass during those contests. “I think it improves by being more physical,” Painter stated in a video published by GoldandBlack.com after the final game in Canada, as cited by si.com. “Any time you’re behind plays, and you have to get in rotations, it’s going to be harder to rebound.” Teammate Caden Pierce noted in practices that Shahrvin provides a unique body type and physical matchup that benefits the roster following the departures of Trey Kaufman-Renn and Oscar Cluff to professional careers, indystar.com reported.
Purdue Sets Frontcourt Rotation Before Gonzaga Opener
Purdue features Daniel Jacobsen and Raleigh Burgess at the five-spot, alongside Caden Pierce and Jack Benter at the four-spot heading into the new campaign, according to si.com. Sinan Huan and Rivers Knights played sparingly. Shahrvin now enters the rotation mix to contribute at both forward positions. The 23-year-old didn’t arrive in West Lafayette in July but has three exhibition games on the schedule before Purdue opens its season on November 2, 2026, against Gonzaga in Las Vegas, as reported by indystar.com and si.com.
