PWHL Stars Knight, Coyne Schofield, and Ambrose Sidelined with Olympic Injuries

Several stars from the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) are facing extended time off the ice after sustaining injuries while representing their countries at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. Hilary Knight of the Seattle Torrent, Kendall Coyne Schofield of the Minnesota Frost, and Erin Ambrose of the Montreal Victoire have all been placed on long-term injured reserve.

Hilary Knight’s Injury

Hilary Knight, captain of the U.S. Olympic Women’s Hockey Team and a forward for the Seattle Torrent, suffered a lower-body injury during the Olympic Games. The Seattle Torrent announced on Friday, February 27, 2026, that Knight will be out of the lineup indefinitely according to the Associated Press.

Knight was a key contributor to the U.S. Team’s gold medal victory, recording three goals and three assists, including a crucial goal in the 2-1 overtime win against Canada in the final. She currently has three goals and seven assists in the current PWHL season.

“While we’re eager to be at full strength and recognize the anticipation of Hilary’s return, we’re focused on putting her and our team in the best position for a playoff push,” said Torrent general manager Meghan Turner in a statement as reported by the AP.

Kendall Coyne Schofield’s Injury

Minnesota Frost captain Kendall Coyne Schofield has been placed on long-term injured reserve, effective February 19, with an upper-body injury sustained during the Olympics. She scored three goals for the United States during the tournament.

“I am incredibly proud of all our Frost Olympians who demonstrated true excellence on the world stage,” said Minnesota Frost general manager Melissa Caruso in a statement according to the Associated Press. “We are fully committed to supporting Kendall throughout her recovery, and our medical team will be working diligently to aid her prepare for her return to the ice.”

Erin Ambrose’s Injury

The Montreal Victoire announced on Thursday that Erin Ambrose has been placed on long-term injured reserve, retroactive to February 19, due to a lower-body injury suffered while playing for Canada in the gold medal game. Ambrose recorded a pair of assists at the Olympics.

Other Olympic Injury News

Marie-Philip Poulin, captain of the Canadian team, is listed as day-to-day with an Olympics-related injury. Victoire general manager Daniele Sauvageau expressed confidence in the swift recovery of their Olympic players as reported by the AP, stating, “we are confident that they will be back in the lineup in the near future.”

Hilary Knight’s Accomplishments

Hilary Knight, born July 12, 1989, is widely considered one of the greatest players in women’s hockey history. She currently plays forward and is captain for the Seattle Torrent of the PWHL and the United States women’s national ice hockey team according to Wikipedia. She has won ten gold medals at the IIHF World Women’s Championship, a record for any hockey player, and holds the tournament records for goals, assists, and points. She is a five-time Olympic medalist, with gold medals in 2018 and 2026, and silver medals in 2010, 2014, and 2022.
