Rajiv Ruparelia Eye Camp Launches in Bukedea, Uganda

Bukedea, Uganda – The Ruparelia Foundation officially launched the RR Eye Camp Bukedea on March 9, 2026, a large-scale medical outreach initiative dedicated to providing essential eye care to underserved communities in Eastern Uganda. The camp, scheduled to take place from Friday, March 27th to Sunday, March 29th, 2026, at Bukedea Teaching Hospital, serves as a tribute to the late Rajiv Ruparelia and his commitment to philanthropic service.

A Legacy of Service Honored

The initiative aims to address critical healthcare gaps in the Teso sub-region by providing:

  • Free eye screenings and basic treatment for at least 2,000 community members.
  • Approximately 300 cataract surgeries, including 50 specialized surgeries for children.
  • Distribution of over 800 free reading glasses.
  • Public education on preventive eye care and common conditions.

The RR Eye Camp Bukedea is deeply rooted in the philanthropic spirit of the late Rajiv Ruparelia, whose life was defined by a dedication to disadvantaged communities and the belief that access to basic healthcare should not be limited by geographical location or economic status. The camp’s theme, “Continuing the Vision,” reflects this commitment.

Revolutionary Approach to Eye Care

The RR Eye Camp Bukedea 2026 distinguishes itself through two key features:

  1. On-Ground Theatre: All cataract surgeries, treatments, and prescriptions will be conducted directly at the Bukedea Teaching Hospital, eliminating logistical and financial barriers that often prevent rural residents from completing their treatment journey.
  2. Specialized Paediatric Care: This is the first eye camp of its kind to include specialized care for children, addressing a critical need within the community.

National Support and Collaboration

The launch event at Kabira Country Club was attended by Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, who pledged Shs 50 million in support of the initiative, recognizing Rajiv Ruparelia as a “staunch supporter” of community initiatives . Victoria University, part of the Ruparelia Group, is contributing 80 medical students to assist with the camp, providing valuable hands-on learning opportunities.

Expanding Reach Across Uganda

According to Sudhir Ruparelia, the RR Eye Camp is envisioned as a national initiative, rotating across different regions of Uganda every two years. Following the Bukedea outreach, the next camp is planned for Kasese District .

A Shs 1.7 Billion Investment in Sight

The RR Eye Camp Bukedea represents a Shs 1.7 billion investment by the Ruparelia Foundation in improving eye health and quality of life for vulnerable populations in Eastern Uganda . The initiative has garnered widespread praise and trending online, highlighting the Ruparelia family’s ongoing commitment to philanthropy.
