Key Highlights from the WRC Rally Japan 2023

In a special stage that saw improved performance compared to earlier, the gaps in results were less pronounced.

For the third time since the start, Elfyn Evans set the fastest time, slightly increasing his lead over teammates Oliver Solberg and Sébastien Ogier, who remained in the mid-field after a more challenging section.

Thierry Neuville continued to struggle with hard tires, falling behind Sami Pajari for third place, while Takamoto Katsuta could also overtake the Belgian in the coming kilometers.

In WRC2, the intense battle between Alejandro Cachon and Nikolay Gryazin persisted. The Russian took the lead again with a better time, narrowing the gap to just 1 second.

There was some moisture in the central part where it was dirtier, but not much.
T.Katsuta
18:28.0
We tried soft tires. I wanted to test this and see how it would work.
O.Solberg
18:16.1
It was challenging. This was our first time on dry surfaces here. We clearly have more to learn.
A.Fourmaux

This special stage is truly incredible and a pleasure to drive. It’s remarkably demanding. You have to manage tires and brakes. I couldn’t push hard or I would have lost everything. We didn’t manage it well enough.
S.Pajari
18:25.7
Interesting, but I don’t fully understand. It felt strange. It didn’t seem too bad with a smooth rhythm.
S.Ogier
18:17.8
There was a lot of understeer, but it’s okay, everything is fine.
