First Known Time a Tiger Gives Birth to 5 Cubs in China
A remarkable event has occurred in the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park, near the Chinese-Russian border: a tiger has given birth to a litter of five cubs – the first documented instance of such a large litter in the wild in China.
Typically, tigers give birth to one to four cubs at a time, according to Rinjan Shrestha, the lead specialist on Asian big cats for the World Wildlife Fund. WWF
With only approximately 70 tigers remaining in the wild in China, this exceptional litter is a significant boost for the endangered species. WWF
