When the child reached for the package, she sustained a bite to her left hand.
Her father, Manuel, told KTLA that the family transported the child to a grocery store parking lot to meet an ambulance. She was initially treated at a local hospital with antivenom before being transferred to a facility with a pediatric intensive care unit. The child received two additional doses of antivenom over the following two days and is expected to recover.
