“Real Women Have Curves” Returns to CASA 0101 Theater in Bilingual Performances

Los Angeles, CA – CASA 0101 Theater will present a latest production of Josefina López’s award-winning play, “Real Women Have Curves,” directed by Corky Dominguez. Performances will run for six weeks, from March 27 to May 3, 2026, at the Gloria Molina Auditorium, located at 2102 East First Street in Los Angeles’ Boyle Heights neighborhood. The production will be presented in both English, and Spanish.

A Story of Latina Women and Resilience

“Real Women Have Curves” tells the story of five curvy Latina women working in a small sewing factory in East Los Angeles in 1987. As they strive to meet an impossible production deadline, they navigate challenges related to immigration and grapple with issues of body image, machismo, and objectification. The play highlights their determination, courage, and the bonds they forge through shared experiences and “chisme” (gossip).

Cast and Creative Team

The cast includes Stefany Arroyo as Ana García, Yasha Alaniz as Estela García, Bianca Araceli as Carmen García, Amy Melendrez as Rosalí, and Laura Vega as Pancha. Gabriela Machuca and Mariana Montes Sandoval will serve as understudies. Machuca will appear as Ana García in the Spanish performance on April 19, 2026, and Sandoval will appear as Estela García in the Spanish performance on April 26, 2026.

The creative team features Josefina López as the creator and playwright, Emmanuel Deleage as the producer and executive director of CASA 0101 Theater, Edward Padilla as the casting director, Corky Dominguez as the director, and a team of designers and technicians contributing to the production’s artistic vision.

Josefina López, reflecting on the play’s enduring impact, stated that she felt “divinely guided” when she first began writing it in 1988. She noted the story’s continued relevance, addressing themes of machismo, objectification, and the experiences of being undocumented. López described the play as a celebration of “the four stages of being a womankind” and a “sacred dance of feminine goddess energy and camaraderie.”

Director Corky Dominguez emphasized the play’s poignancy in today’s world, highlighting its humor and uplifting message. Producer Emmanuel Deleage noted that “Real Women Have Curves” launched CASA 0101 Theater over 25 years ago and expressed excitement about bringing it back after a successful Broadway run in 2025.

Performance Schedule

English performances will be held on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. From March 27 – May 3, 2026, with Sunday performances at 2:00 p.m. On March 29 and April 5, 2026, and at 7:00 p.m. On April 12, 19, 26 and May 3, 2026. Spanish performances will be presented on Sundays at 2:00 p.m. On April 12, 19, 26 and May 3, 2026.
