Realme 16 Pro: A Detailed Review of Features, Performance, and Camera Capabilities

Realme has expanded its number series with the launch of the Realme 16 Pro, positioned as a more affordable alternative to the Realme 16 Pro+. The new series focuses on design, display, and camera capabilities, now featuring a substantial 7,000mAh battery and a range of AI-powered features.

Design and Durability

The Realme 16 Pro immediately stands out with its unconventional camera module design. Available in Master Gold, Pebble Grey, and Orchid Purple, the phone offers a variety of aesthetic choices. Despite its large footprint, the device is comfortable to hold, with a matte finish enhancing grip. The Pro models boast impressive durability ratings, including IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K.

Display: Bright and Vibrant

The Realme 16 Pro features a 6.78-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1272 x 2772 pixels and a peak brightness of up to 6,500 nits. 91mobiles notes the display delivers bright and vibrant colors, particularly with Realme’s Flux theme. The panel supports a 144Hz refresh rate, though it’s often limited to 120Hz in most applications.

Camera Performance: A 200MP Main Lens

The Realme 16 Pro utilizes a dual-camera setup, headlined by a 200MP main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide lens. A 50MP front camera handles selfies and video calls. The phone offers a multifocal range from 1x to 4x, along with Vibe Master Mode for versatile shooting options.

While daytime image quality isn’t always impressive, with colors appearing somewhat pale and lacking sharpness for immediate social media sharing, low-light performance is notably better. The multifocal zoom option is useful, but results can appear over-processed.

In comparisons with the Motorola Edge 60 Pro, the Realme 16 Pro demonstrates comparable results in daylight, capturing detail and maintaining sharpness. However, the Realme 16 Pro often produces sharper textures and more natural colors, while the Edge 60 Pro tends towards slight color enhancement. Realme also excels in dynamic range, preserving more detail in both bright and dark areas.

For selfies, the Motorola Edge 60 Pro delivers more natural skin tones, while the Realme 16 Pro applies smoothing effects. In portrait mode, the Realme 16 Pro produces more accurate skin tones and clothing colors. The Edge 60 Pro’s edge detection and background blur, aided by a telephoto lens, create more convincing bokeh.

In low-light conditions, the Realme 16 Pro manages exposure and glare more effectively than the Edge 60 Pro, resulting in cleaner photos, though at the expense of some detail. When night mode is activated, the Realme 16 Pro further improves light and glare control, producing clearer images.

Performance: MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Max

The Realme 16 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Max 5G chipset. 91mobiles reports that the phone’s AnTuTu score is relatively low for its price segment, achieving 983,589 points compared to the Motorola Edge 70’s 1,402,932 points. While performance is generally smooth, the phone experiences significant temperature spikes during extended gaming sessions.

Software and Updates

The Realme 16 Pro runs on Realme UI 7.0, which is described as cleaner and smoother than previous versions. The software includes expanded customization options for fingerprint animations, icons, widgets, and lock screen styles. Realme is increasingly integrating AI features, such as AI Notify Brief and AI Framing Master. The device will receive 3 years of OS updates and 4 years of security updates.

Battery Life

Equipped with a large 7,000mAh battery and 80W prompt charging, the Realme 16 Pro delivers excellent battery life. In the PCMark battery test, it clocked 14 hours and 18 minutes, placing it among the top performers in its segment.

Pricing and Availability

The Realme 16 Pro is available in various configurations: 8GB + 128GB at ₹34,999, 8GB + 256GB starting at ₹36,999, and 12GB + 256GB starting at ₹39,999. The phone is available through realme.com, retail stores, and Flipkart.
