Renault Espace: A Modernized Family Hybrid
Renault has updated the Espace, unifying the brand’s design language and enhancing passenger comfort. The sixth-generation Espace, introduced in 2023, marked a shift from the traditional MPV segment to a more popular SUV format. This modernization builds upon that transition, offering a blend of style, practicality, and technology.
Exterior Design Updates
The updated Espace features a redesigned front end, including new LED headlights (with optional LED Matrix technology), a new radiator grille with a prominent logo, and a revised bumper. New daytime running lights, shaped like halves of a diamond – Renault’s brand symbol – add a distinctive touch. Minor adjustments have also been made to the hood.
At the rear, the Espace receives new taillights and subtly modified fifth-door shapes. These changes contribute to a more modern and sophisticated appearance.
Interior Enhancements
Inside, the most notable addition is the Solarbay glass roof, measuring 1.7 meters in length and 1.13 meters in width – the largest offered by Renault. This roof utilizes liquid crystal technology to control opacity, divided into nine segments that can be adjusted manually or via voice commands.
A new camera positioned on the left front pillar monitors the driver’s attention. When a driver profile is recognized, the car automatically adjusts settings such as the seat position, mirrors, radio stations, and infotainment system preferences.
The cabin retains its modern technological equipment and ergonomic design, featuring a 12.3-inch instrument panel screen, a vertically oriented 12-inch infotainment display, and an optional 9.3-inch head-up display. The infotainment system is based on the Google platform and complemented by physical buttons for frequently used functions.
Front seats prioritize comfort and support, and the interior offers ample storage space. The Espace is available in five- or seven-seat configurations, with the seven-seat version featuring a rear bench that slides up to 22 centimeters and offers four inclination settings.
Spaciousness and Practicality
The trunk provides 692 to 2224 liters of storage space, with a practical organizer hidden under the double bottom.
Powertrain and Performance
The Renault Espace continues to be powered by the full hybrid E-Tech 200 powertrain, combining a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine with two electric motors. A 400V battery is located under the front seats.
The hybrid system delivers a combined output of 200 horsepower, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.8 seconds. Fuel consumption is rated at 4.8-5.0 liters per 100 km (WLTP), with a range exceeding 1,000 kilometers on a single tank.
The powertrain is tuned for smooth and refined operation, maximizing electric drive usage for quiet and efficient city driving. The transition between electric and combustion power is seamless, and the system responds flexibly to driver input.
Driving Dynamics
The Espace offers a comfortable ride, with well-tuned suspension that minimizes body roll. The optional 4Control rear wheel steering system enhances agility and stability, reducing the turning radius to 10.4 meters. Improved noise reduction and refined brake experience further contribute to the driving experience.
