Paolo Dondina, a criminal lawyer from Milan and an internationally recognized authority in cynology, died on July 1, at the age of 88. He spent his final years in Arezzo, having previously chosen Monterchi to live.
Seeking Justice for the Linate Tragedy
Dondina’s legal legacy included his work as a civil party lawyer representing families affected by the Linate Airport disaster. On October 8, 2001, a Scandinavian Airlines MD-87 collided with a private jet on the airport’s main runway in heavy fog. The accident claimed 118 lives, leaving only one survivor. Investigations later pointed to a catastrophic convergence of inadequate signage and inoperable ground radar.
The Comitato 8 ottobre 2001, founded to advocate for air safety and honor the victims, noted that Dondina pursued the subsequent legal proceedings with significant determination. In a final salute to his efforts, the Committee stated: "To his memory, our thanks. With profound gratitude."
An Elite Authority in the Ring
Parallel to his courtroom work, Dondina commanded respect in the world of canine competition. He was an all-rounder judge who knew all breeds.
The Ente Nazionale della Cinofilia Italiana (ENCI) formally acknowledged his passing. President Dino Muto remembered Dondina as a "point of reference for Italian cynology," adding that his professionalism and contributions represent a "precious heritage for the entire canine community."
From Milanese Courts to the Tuscan Countryside
Dondina’s path eventually led him away from Milan. He chose the quiet of Sant’Antimo near Monterchi, before settling into the historic center of Arezzo. His death drew tributes from across the legal and sporting worlds. The Misericordia handled his funeral arrangements, and his remains will be cremated.

Dondina’s career left an indelible mark on two disparate fields. His legal advocacy highlighted critical failures in Italian aviation safety protocols, while his role with the ENCI helped shape the standards of Italian cynology.
