Revelate Fitness: Revolutionizing Gym Classes with Personalized Workouts
Gym classes can be intimidating, especially for those who don’t consider themselves “fitness fanatics.” Feeling overwhelmed by fast paces, complex instructions, or public performance metrics like leaderboards is a common experience. However, a Cork-based tech startup, Revelate Fitness, is working to change that by personalizing the gym class experience for everyone, regardless of their fitness level.
The Problem with Traditional Gym Classes
Traditionally, gym classes, such as spin classes, often involve an instructor leading at a high intensity, with participants expected to retain up. This can leave beginners or those with lower fitness levels feeling left behind, discouraged and potentially injured. The inability to clearly hear instructions or match the average pace can quickly diminish the enjoyment and benefits of the workout.
Revelate Fitness: A Personalized Approach
Founded in 2022 by Corkman Chris Kenefick, a former rugby player, Revelate Fitness offers a technology-driven solution to this problem. The company develops an app that personalizes each class to the individual user’s fitness level. Kenefick created Revelate Fitness after noticing a gap in the market for inclusive fitness experiences. He wanted a system that was accessible to anyone, not just those already in good shape, with a goal of users being comfortable with the app within 15 minutes of first use.
How it Works
Revelate Fitness utilizes a system of three cardio machines – a rower, bike, and ski machine – and its proprietary app. The app sets individual targets for each participant within a class setting, ensuring everyone receives a challenging workout tailored to their abilities. The technology tracks effort and sets targets, allowing users to focus on beating their own scores rather than comparing themselves to others. The app also tracks metres completed, with some users achieving over seven million metres.
Accessibility and Inclusivity
The accessibility of Revelate Fitness is a key differentiator. Classes have included participants ranging from teenagers to Special Olympic athletes and individuals up to 80 years old. Kenefick emphasizes that the system rewards effort, allowing individuals of varying fitness levels to participate and succeed together. He recounts getting his father and uncle involved in classes over two and a half years ago, and they continue to train twice a week.
Growth and Expansion
Revelate Fitness has experienced significant growth since its inception. As of March 2026, the app is used in 25 gyms across four countries, with over 2,500 people participating in classes each month [1]. The company is also expanding into the UK and USA, with partnerships established in Washington DC and Texas [2]. In Ireland, Revelate Fitness is currently available in 10 gyms, including five in Cork, and others in Dublin, Galway, Wicklow, and Tipperary [4].
Community and Fundraising
Revelate Fitness is also committed to community engagement. The company has been running fitness classes for Special Olympics clubs in Cork for the past 21 months, empowering athletes and fostering a sense of community through movement [3].
Looking Ahead
Revelate Fitness aims to build gyms more comfortable and confidence-building environments, leading to more diverse and social fitness settings. By focusing on individual progress and rewarding effort, Revelate Fitness is redefining the gym class experience for a wider range of individuals.
