Richard Brener, New Line Cinema’s president and chief creative officer, is expected to transition to the newly formed Skydance studio following the merger between Paramount and Warner Bros., deadline.com reported. The executive shakeup places all Warner Bros. film labels under Paramount Production Co-Chairs Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein, with the multi-billion-dollar deal scheduled to close early next week.
Richard Brener Set to Lead New Line Into Skydance Era
The corporate reorganization brings significant leadership shifts to the Melrose lot. While Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group chiefs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy are departing, DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran are staying on, deadline.com noted. Brener will continue steering New Line Cinema, providing a anchor of institutional memory and genre stability for the combined studio.
Brener’s history with New Line stretches back to 1995 when Michael De Luca originally hired him as a temp. He steadily climbed through the ranks, serving as story editor, senior vice president, and senior vice president and chief operating officer in the mid-2000s.

Upcoming Film Slate and Franchise Proven Track Record
Brener brings a major commercial pipeline into the Skydance era. The incoming slate features Zach Cregger’s original sci-fi title The Flood, slated for August 11, 2028, and the Weapons prequel Gladys on September 8, 2028. The schedule also includes Andy Serkis-directed The Hunt for Gollum on December 17, 2027, alongside genre staples like Evil Dead Wrath on August 7, 2028, and Final Destination 7 on May 12, 2028.
Past box office results underline his commercial footprint. Last year, The Conjuring installment Last Rites brought in close to a half-billion globally, while Final Destination Bloodlines set a franchise record with $317.8M under directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, according to deadline.com. Beyond horror, his executive history includes broad theatrical comedies such as The Wedding Singer, Wedding Crashers, the Sex and the City movies, and the Austin Powers franchise.
Questions Remaining as the Merger Closes
Paramount did not respond to requests for comment regarding the executive transition. While reports indicate that no other major leadership changes are anticipated across the remaining Warner Bros. labels, the exact reporting structures and operational integrations beneath Goldberg and Greenstein will become clearer once the transaction finalizes early next week.
