Richard E Grant Denies Staging Traitor Slip-Up on BBC Show
Actor Richard E Grant has denied allegations that he deliberately leaked his role on The Celebrity Traitors to escape weeks of filming. During the first episode of the BBC series, Grant was selected as a traitor alongside Love Island presenter Maya Jama, but quickly admitted his secret to several other contestants.
The slip-up led to immediate suspicion and resulted in Grant becoming the first person banished at the roundtable. Following his exit, The Sun reported that some workers on the BBC show believed the actor staged the blunder to shorten his time on the show.
On Tuesday, Grant addressed the claims directly in an Instagram story. I usually wouldn’t comment on things like this, but I’ve been made aware some press outlets are suggesting I ‘staged’ my traitors reveal to get out of filming,
he wrote. This is categorically false. I’m an avid fan of the show and have been since it first aired. Being picked as a Traitor when I was convinced I’d be a faithful was an absolute dream and a sheer shock to the system.
Grant exits after fellow traitors vote him out
Grant’s admission left him vulnerable during the roundtable vote, where he received votes from the majority of the contestants. The votes against him included both of his fellow traitors: Maya Jama and comedian James Acaster, who had been recruited.
Standing before the group to confirm his departure, Grant stated, I am… an unfaithful traitor.
Reflecting on his gameplay after the banishment, he conceded that revealing his identity so early was a catastrophically idiotic thing to do.
Grant also noted that his daughter had warned him before filming began that he would likely be slaughtered
because he remains incapable of hiding what you feel about people or anything.
