Two Killed, Seven Wounded in Richmond, Virginia Mass Shooting

Richmond, Virginia – A shooting in the Shockoe Bottom entertainment district early Saturday morning left two people dead and seven others injured, according to Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards. The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. And appears to have stemmed from a fight that escalated into gunfire.

Details of the Shooting

Police Chief Edwards stated that an officer in the area observed a “large commotion” and cars speeding away prior to the shooting. The two fatalities, a 23-year-old woman identified as Genesis Jones of Petersburg and a 42-year-old man named Dominic Jackson of Henrico County, both died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.

Four other individuals were transported to local hospitals by ambulance with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. An additional three people sought treatment at area hospitals via private transportation. Among the wounded are three men and four women. One man is currently in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, while the remaining six sustained injuries not considered life-threatening. WTVR reported that Jones was an innocent bystander celebrating her brother’s birthday when she was caught in the crossfire.

Investigation Underway

Authorities have recovered over 50 cartridge casings and two firearms at the scene, and suspect that additional weapons were used in the shooting. USA Today reports that Edwards indicated there are at least two suspected shooters, and the investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made as of Saturday afternoon.

Shockoe Bottom and Previous Incidents

Shockoe Bottom is a historic neighborhood in Richmond known for its restaurants and clubs. Local bars typically close around 2 a.m., according to Edwards. Prior to this incident, Richmond had recorded three homicides in 2026. USA Today
