Ringmahon Rangers slapped with five-year FAI Cup ban

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has issued a five-year ban and a €5,000 fine to Ringmahon Rangers after the Cork-based club withdrew from the 2024 FAI Cup. By forfeiting their scheduled second-round fixture against Bohemians, the club has been barred from the competition until 2029.

Breach of fixture obligations

The FAI’s disciplinary committee confirmed the sanctions after the club failed to fulfill its match commitments. According to an official statement from the Football Association of Ireland, the side was found to be in breach of competition rules regarding withdrawal. The penalty package includes a formal exclusion from the tournament for the next five seasons alongside the €5,000 financial hit.

Under FAI Cup regulations, clubs are expected to adhere to the tournament schedule once entries are confirmed.

Disrupted tournament bracket

The forfeit resulted in Bohemians receiving a bye into the next round. While the FAI Cup often serves as a showcase for non-league and intermediate clubs to compete against League of Ireland sides, the withdrawal of Ringmahon Rangers disrupted the tournament bracket.

A harsh deterrent for intermediate ranks

Summary of Sanctions

  • Competition Ban: Five years (2025–2029 seasons).
  • Financial Penalty: €5,000 fine.
  • Reason for Action: Failure to fulfill the 2024 FAI Cup second-round fixture against Bohemians.

As of now, the sanction remains in effect, and the FAI Cup committee will proceed with planning future tournaments without the inclusion of Ringmahon Rangers.
