Reilingen/Hockenheim. The Bundesliga was merged by the German Wrestling Federation (DRB). Starting next season, 20 teams will compete in a common round – with just one table. The draw for the single-track league was made on the sidelines of the Bundesliga final between Burghausen and Weingarten. Each team fights twelve fights against twelve different opponents.

Those responsible for the association have chosen a mode that is based on the Football Champions League and is intended to ensure more comparability. The decision has met with a lot of criticism because, contrary to the usual return game or match rules – or at least a game plan in which each team faces the same opponents, so that the performances are really compared with each other and in the end the most successful club is at the top of the table – the competition plan of the new Bundesliga is now different for all participants. A comparison – as in the premier class of footballers – doesn’t really seem possible.

KSV Ketsch is punished by the wrestling association and is only allowed to fight in the regional league

While the RKG Railings/Hockenheim As a former second division team took the step and is now fighting first class, KSV Ketsch did not take advantage of this opportunity and was even downgraded again by the association (we reported several times). It is now clear that the former second division team will only be allowed to play in the national league next season.

Meanwhile, Reilingen/Hockenheim knows the opponents of the Bundesliga season and also the order of the fights: It starts at RKG Freiburg before celebrating their Bundesliga debut at home against ASV Schorndorf. Afterwards, ASV Urloffen welcomes the RKG, which in turn welcomes AC Heusweiler for a home fight. KSV Köllerbach away, SG Weilimdorf at home and AC Lichtenfels as hosts for the second half of the season follow. The eighth fight will be played at home against SV Germania Weingarten and ASV Hüttigweiler will also hand in its business card to the RKG. The last three comparisons finally take place at RG Saarbrücken, at home against KG Baienfurt-Ravensburg and at Erzgebirge Aue.

RKG Reilingen/Hockenheim is critical of the lack of points limits in the wrestling Bundesliga

RKG sports director Alexander Offenloch was overall satisfied with the draw: “With Schorndorf, Weingarten and Köllerbach, we were drawn three absolute heavyweights. Overall, however, it could have been even more difficult. We see ourselves on equal terms against the rest of the opponents and are looking forward to many exciting fights.” The RKG is ready for the Bundesliga, write the Reilingen/Hockenheimers in conclusion about the draw.

A central and still controversial point of the reform is the abolition of the previous point limit. In the future, for example, up to four Olympic champions or world champions could be used per team competition, explains the RKG. He assesses this decision “critically and sees it as a particular disadvantage for young German talents, whose path to the Bundesliga will be made even more difficult.” It is a “step in the wrong direction”.

At the end of the main round in the new format are the play-offs, which are played in the knockout system with home and return matches. The winner of the final round is the German champion.
