Robinhood’s Banking Push and Platinum Card Signal Ambitions Beyond Trading
Robinhood Markets Inc. (NASDAQ:HOOD) is rapidly evolving from a commission-free stock trading platform into a comprehensive financial ecosystem. A key component of this transformation is the growth of its banking division, which recently surpassed $1 billion in deposits, and the introduction of a high-end platinum credit card aimed at affluent consumers.
$1 Billion Milestone for Robinhood Banking
Robinhood Banking has reached a significant milestone, accumulating over $1 billion in deposits from 65,000 funded customers just four months after its launch in November 2025. Vlad Tenev, CEO of Robinhood, announced the achievement on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the platform’s successful expansion into traditional financial services.
Robinhood Banking just crossed $1B in deposits from 65K funded customers. Huge milestone — and the team is just getting started🔥
Robinhood is a financial technology company, not a bank. Banking services are provided by Coastal Community Bank, Member FDIC.

It’s important to note that although Robinhood offers banking services, these are provided by Coastal Community Bank, a subsidiary of Coastal Financial Corp. (NASDAQ:CCB), with Robinhood functioning as a financial technology company.
Challenging the Premium Credit Card Market
This deposit growth is strategically timed as Robinhood prepares to disrupt the super-premium credit card market. The company has unveiled a platinum card, available by invitation only and priced at $695 per year, directly competing with established players like American Express Co. (NYSE:AXP).
The card aims to attract and retain young, wealthy consumers by offering attractive perks, including 10% cash back on hotels and a complimentary Gold membership. By consolidating checking, savings, and credit services, Robinhood aims to create a more comprehensive and sticky financial ecosystem.
Building a Financial “Super App”
The integration of banking services, a premium credit card, and high-yield savings aligns with Vlad Tenev’s vision for a “Super App” – a single platform encompassing all of a user’s financial needs. Robinhood is actively expanding its product offerings, including a prediction markets division that has facilitated over 12 billion event contracts in 2025.
With deposits increasing and latest premium products launching, Robinhood is solidifying its position as a full-service financial powerhouse, moving beyond its origins as a commission-free stock trading app.
HOOD Stock Performance
As of March 12, 2026, Robinhood shares (HOOD) are down 30.57% year-to-date and 33.14% over the past six months, despite a 120.40% increase over the past year. According to Benzinga’s Edge Stock Rankings, HOOD maintains a weaker price trend in the short, medium, and long term, but exhibits a solid growth score.
