Kaiser Permanente Expands Robotic Surgery to Denver Outpatient Center
Kaiser Permanente is expanding its robotic surgery program to the Franklin Medical Offices in Denver, Colorado, bringing advanced surgical technology to more patients. The addition of a new robotic system allows surgeons to perform complex procedures with smaller incisions, potentially leading to faster recovery times and reduced complications.
Benefits of Robotic Surgery
Robotic surgery offers several advantages over traditional open surgery. According to Sybil Dessie, MD, a urogynecology surgeon at Kaiser Permanente, the technology enables surgeons to perform “major complex procedures with particularly small incisions.” Dr. Dessie explains that smaller incisions translate to less pain for patients, quicker recovery, and a lower risk of complications.
Expanding Surgical Capabilities
Kaiser Permanente has been utilizing robotic surgery for several years at its Lone Tree outpatient surgical center for total joint replacements and in hospitals. Expanding capacity at the Franklin Medical Offices allows surgical teams to perform more outpatient procedures on-site, including general surgery, gynecology, urogynecology, and gynecological oncology procedures. Sybil G. Dessie, MD, notes that this expansion will “really going to change things.”
Cost-Effective and Accessible Care
Greg Berman, MD, interim president and executive medical director at Kaiser Permanente in Colorado, emphasizes the benefits of in-house robotic surgery. He states that investing in this technology improves access to hospital-level surgical care at a lower cost due to the facility and skilled staff already in place. Dr. Berman highlights Kaiser Permanente’s commitment to providing high-quality, affordable care to its members.
Future Expansion
Kaiser Permanente plans to continue expanding its robotic surgery capabilities with the opening of the new Westminster Medical Offices in 2028. This new facility will include a surgical center equipped with robotic surgery technology, further increasing access to advanced surgical care in the Denver North Metro area. Sybil Gloria Dessie, MD and her team at Kaiser Permanente are dedicated to providing comprehensive and compassionate women’s healthcare services.
