Dan Houser Unveils Cast for Absurdaverse, His Latest Comedy Satire Franchise Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser has revealed the initial voice cast for his upcoming multimedia franchise, Absurdaverse. The project, developed through his studio Absurd Ventures, combines an animated series with an original AAA open-world video game set in a shared comedy satire universe. According to Variety, the first wave of casting includes Rachel Dratch, Dan Soder, Ari Matti, Annie Lederman, Yamaneika Saunders, and Steph Tolev. These actors will voice characters across both the animated shorts and the video game components of the franchise. Additional cast members are expected to be announced in the future, as Houser has described the project as featuring a “cast of hundreds” for its animated and gaming elements. The Absurdaverse was first teased in 2023 when Houser launched Absurd Ventures after departing Rockstar Games. Polygon reported that the studio has since released a context-free reveal video, a narrative podcast, and character artwork showcasing an eclectic mix of figures ranging from vikings and the undead to hipsters and burnouts. The studio described the upcoming cast as “new kinds of heroes (and watch them suffer).” Animation Magazine confirmed that the Absurdaverse is designed as an interconnected universe spanning animation and video games, with the initial animated shorts set to premiere in May 2026 ahead of a formal presentation at the Netflix Is A Joke Festival. MSN noted that the franchise will pair an untitled animated series with an untitled original story-driven action-comedy adventure game, both currently in development. Although specific gameplay details and plot elements remain under wraps, the project marks Houser’s first major creative endeavor since leaving Rockstar, where he served as lead writer on Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. Absurd Ventures aims to build new intellectual property across multiple platforms, with the Absurdaverse representing its first significant step toward that goal.
