Every February 9, World Pizza Day invites us to celebrate one of the most popular dishes in the world. This year, in Uruguay, the date once again has a strong solidarity component given that RODELÚ will carry out its action “Ask one, donate another” for the second time. transforming sales into food for the Uruguayan Food Bank.

The initiative will take place throughout the day tomorrow in the 10 RODELÚ branches – located in Montevideo, Salto, Paysandú and Punta del Este – and applies both for consumption at the premises and for pick-up at the counter. Does not include delivery.

The mechanism is simple: For each pizzeria product that the customer purchases, RODELÚ automatically donates another equivalent, at no extra cost. At the end of the day, the total billed in pizzas is converted into basic foods—flour, oil, tomato sauce and mozzarella—which are then distributed by the Food Bank to picnic areas and social organizations throughout the country.

“It is a different 2×1: “You eat the pizza and we donate the other.”resume Andres Deogostinione of the directors of the pizzeria. “It is not a traditional promotion, it is a 2×1 solidarity”, he adds.

From a local action to a national alliance

The proposal is not new. In 2025RODELÚ carried out the first edition of this solidarity action, which far exceeded expectations and allowed us to donate more than 4,200 kilos of food, Delivered directly to snack bars near each branch.

“It was a very strong experience. I never imagined that we were going to be unloading food trucks,” Deagostini recalls. However, the growth of the chain and the magnitude of the donation led this year to professionalize the process.

With the opening of new stores and the expectation of doubling the proceeds, RODELÚ decided to establish an agreement with the Food Bank Foundation of Uruguay, which has an already consolidated distribution system. “They have the channel, the logistics and the national reach. Our donation goes to the Bank and they make sure it reaches where it is most needed.”he explains.

The goal for this year is ambitious: reaching 8,000 kilos of donated food in a single day.

Food and social commitment

“We live by selling food, that’s why We understand that food is a central issue in which we have to get involved“, he points out. “In a country with millions of inhabitants, there are still people who go hungry or eat little. As a large gastronomy company, we feel that we have to collaborate,” he adds.

In addition to focusing on food, the group works on actions linked to mental health, especially indoors. In December of last year, they signed an agreement with a specialized clinic to provide free psychological consultations to all their employees, as part of a comprehensive staff care policy.

How to join

During February 9, All pizzeria products are included in the stock: pizzas, muzza, fainá, fainá with muzza, figazza, pizzetas, fainá sandwiches, pizzas with flavors and pizza boards.

“It is an everyday gesture, like going out to eat pizza, that that day can help many,” concludes Deagostini.
