This is such a big achievement for all of us,
Lillien Weiss said after sweeping her match. The Ross School girls tennis team defeated Cold Spring Harbor 3-0 in the Long Island small school championship on Thursday at Shoreham-Wading River, Newsday reported.
Lillien Weiss and Brooke Saracco Sweep Singles Matches
Lillien Weiss secured the deciding victory for the Ravens with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Taylor Winthrop at first singles. Weiss transitioned to the singles lineup this season after starring in the doubles draw last year, where she won the Suffolk individual title and reached the state semifinals with partner Lola Dangin. Brooke Saracco added a 6-0, 6-1 win against Sylvana Guariglia at second singles, while first doubles pair Dangin and Luma Teixeira defeated Isabella Chomyonk and Elizabeth Mullen 6-0, 6-2.
Director of the Ross School Tennis Center Richele LeSaldo noted that Weiss has dropped only three games all season and Saracco has dropped just seven, with neither player losing a set. It was clean,
LeSaldo said, adding that the players handled business and set strong momentum for the rest of the matches.

Historic Suffolk County Title Sets Up Regional Final
The victory over Cold Spring Harbor follows the program’s first-ever Section XI championship on Oct. 15, when the Ravens edged defending champions Bayport-Blue Point 4-3 to cap an undefeated 17-0 season. Paula Velazquez Osornio clinched that county title by winning a three-set battle 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-3 against Lily Castka. Head coach Neill Pillai credited the team’s success to the players’ talent, hard work, and mutual support throughout the undefeated run, according to a press release.
Following Thursday’s win against Cold Spring Harbor, Ross advances to face the winner of the Section IX and Section I subregional in the regional final. The winner of that matchup moves on to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association team state championship tournament scheduled for Friday, Nov. 6.
