Jammu and Kashmir Invests Over ₹137 Crore in Sports Infrastructure Upgradation

Srinagar, February 5, 2026 – The Government of Jammu and Kashmir is significantly investing in the advancement of its sports infrastructure, having released over ₹137 crore for upgradation projects across the region during the 2025-26 fiscal year. This commitment underscores the administrationS focus on promoting sports and fostering athletic talent within the Union Territory.

Minister for Youth Services and sports, satish Sharma, revealed this facts in response to a question posed by Chander Parkash Ganga. The significant financial allocation demonstrates a proactive approach to enhancing sporting facilities and providing athletes with the resources they need to excel.

Beyond the region-wide investment, a dedicated ₹2.57 crore has been specifically allocated for upgrading sports infrastructure within the Samba district alone during the current financial year. This targeted investment highlights the government’s commitment to equitable development and ensuring that all areas of Jammu and Kashmir benefit from improved sporting amenities.

Moreover, a total of ₹150 crore has been approved under the Capex budget for the sports sector and related activities. As of December 2025, ₹56.57 crore of this allocated budget has already been expended, indicating swift progress in the implementation of various projects.

Specific initiatives undertaken in the Vijaypur constituency include the development of a playfield at Katwalta Purmandal, the installation of chain-link fencing around a synthetic handball court at Government HS Tarore Bari Brahmana, the construction of a playground at Rahya Morh Panchayat Halqa Patti near the Railway Crossing in Vijaypur, the development of a Sports Stadium at Birpur Vijaypur, and the establishment of a kickboxing ring at Panchayat Bagla Rahya Vijaypur.

These projects represent a diverse range of improvements aimed at catering to various sporting disciplines and providing opportunities for both recreational and competitive athletes. The ongoing investments are expected to have a positive impact on the sporting landscape of Jammu and kashmir, encouraging greater participation and contributing to the overall development of the region.
