The Galway Bay Murders debuts on RTÉ
Veteran NYPD detective Nora Savage takes a career break and moves to her family home on the west coast of Ireland, where a murder investigation pulls her into conflict with an environmental magnate. RTÉ released the official trailer for the new drama, which is scheduled to begin on Sunday, 8 November, at 9.30pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player. Filmed in Conamara, the series follows Savage as she joins An Garda Síochána on an exchange programme following a traumatic event.
ITV secures UK rights ahead of Irish broadcast
UK broadcaster ITV bought the crime thriller before its premiere in Ireland. The series carries an original working title of The Yank and has been touted as one of RTÉ’s most anticipated shows since Kin. Darren Nartey, Head of Content Acquisitions at ITV, described the project as a bold, high-calibre drama with a magnetic central mystery set against the west coast of Ireland.
Writer Eithne Verling shapes the Conamara mystery
Television writer Eithne Verling created the script specifically for lead actor Kate Mulgrew after a chance meeting while Mulgrew was on holiday in Galway. The narrative explores power plays, control, fanaticism, and deception while incorporating Traveller culture—a storytelling element Verling drew from her work with the Galway City Museum for over 12 years. The ensemble cast features Colm Meaney, John Connors, India Mullen, Cillian O’Sullivan, Jack Rowan, Clinton Liberty, and Dervla Kirwan.
Broadcast schedule and international distribution plans
The series will air on RTÉ One and stream on RTÉ Player starting Sunday, 8 November at 9.30pm. International distribution is managed through a partnership involving ITV Studios, Two Cities Television, and RTÉ. Steve Carson, Director of Video at RTÉ, stated that the launch forms part of an ambitious new slate of Irish programming designed to support homegrown storytelling for both domestic and international audiences.
