RTÉ Launches Four-Year Luxury Hotel Procurement Tender

RTÉ is planning to spend up to €960,000 over a four-year period on four-star and five-star hotel accommodations around Dublin to host celebrities, contributors, and performers, according to an Irish Times report published on Friday. The public broadcaster launched a tender for the hotel framework as its current agreement expires at the end of the year.

The broadcaster issued the tender on Friday to establish a framework with a limited number of individual hotels or hotel groups capable of delivering accommodation and conference room facilities on a value-for-money basis. Under the terms of the procurement document, the €960,000 figure represents the estimated maximum spend for the entire four-year duration. The initial contract runs for one year, with options to extend for another year on no more than three occasions.

Strict Billing Limits and Historical Booking Volumes

Guests utilizing the accommodations will not be permitted to charge extras to the broadcaster. The tender explicitly states that no bar items, alcoholic drinks, or additional services are to be billed to RTÉ by the participating hotels. Under an existing framework, RTÉ recorded 1,318 hotel bookings in 2025, though that figure fluctuates annually and does not guarantee future booking volumes.

Operational Demands of Broadcasting and Live Concerts

An RTÉ spokeswoman stated that the organization maintains an ongoing requirement to secure rooms due to guests traveling to appear on television and radio programs, frequently at short notice. The requirement also covers members of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra who perform frequently in Dublin city centre venues. Thirteen parties submitted bids for the previous framework, resulting in seven hotels being appointed.

The spokeswoman noted that public procurement rules mandate value for money, transparency, equal treatment, and competition. She emphasized that all spending on hotel rooms supports programming, live performances, and events, and is carefully negotiated. RTÉ also maintains special negotiated rates with two-star and three-star hotels specifically for staff members requiring accommodations due to work commitments.

Application Deadlines for Prospective Hotel Partners

Hotels and groups wishing to secure a place on the new panel must submit their applications by November 4th. The closing date marks the cutoff for submissions to the public tender before the current framework expires on December 31st.
