Bisnis.com JAKARTA – The rupiah exchange rate against the United States dollar is estimated to fluctuate but will close lower in the range of IDR 16,650- IDR 16,700 per US dollar.
Citing data from Bloomberg at 15.00 WIB, the rupiah closed up 0.25% to IDR 16,656 per US dollar. the US dollar index strengthened 0.02% to 100.16.
Meanwhile, the majority of other Asian currencies closed higher, such as the Japanese yen rising 0.15%, the Hong Kong dollar strengthening 0.07%, the Singapore dollar rising 0.14%, the Taiwan dollar stagnating, and the South Korean won strengthening 0.39%.
Then the Philippine peso weakened 0.06%, the Chinese yuan strengthened 0.11%, the Malaysian ringgit strengthened 0.05%, and the Thai baht rose 0.21%.
Currency and commodities observer Ibrahim Assuaibi explained that market players seem confident that the federal Reserve (Fed) will cut interest rates at its december meeting as US economic data continues to flow. This can be seen from the dovish comments of Federal Reserve officials who increased the possibility of cutting interest rates by 25 basis points (bps) at the December meeting.
The latest comments came from Fed Governor Christopher Waller who supported a rate cut in December,echoing comments last Friday from New York Fed President John Williams,who said that a rate cut in December was possible due to a weak labor market.
Markets are now pricing in a nearly 80% chance that the Fed will cut interest rates by a quarter point next month, up from 30% before their statement, according to the CME FedWatch tool.
“Currently market players are preparing for the latest US economic data to get further clues about monetary policy,” said Ibrahim, Tuesday (25/11/2025).
He continued that the US Producer Price (PPI) index is expected to show an increase of 0.3% MoM in September, while Retail Sales are projected to show an increase.
