Russia Intensifies Kyiv Drone Barrage as Airstrikes Enter Fifth Day

Russian air attacks on Kyiv and surrounding Ukrainian regions stretched into the fifth day on Monday, disrupting commutes and halting public transport as near round-the-clock air raid sirens sounded across the capital, according to Reuters. Swarms of drones, including numerous jet-powered models, have targeted Ukrainian infrastructure in recent weeks, compounding a broader intensification of airstrikes over the summer months.

Daytime Commute Paralyzed by Siren Waves

The growing reliance on daytime drone attacks has created severe disruptions for residents in Kyiv, forcing commuters to seek shelter and halting the city’s metro network, according to Reuters reporting. Trains crossing the Dnipro River were suspended during air raid alerts, leaving dozens of passengers stranded on crowded underground platforms.

Among those stranded was 38-year-old nurse and psychologist Yulianna Oliynyk, who told Reuters she was trying to reach a school with her two sons, 11-year-old Adrian and 7-year-old Demian, ahead of the academic year. Oliynyk noted that safety concerns have forced her to rethink daily routines entirely, raising the prospect of sleeping near transit stations if alerts persist.

Widespread Regional Damage From Warehouse Blasts

Regional governor Tymur Tkachenko reported via Telegram that early Monday strikes injured four people and damaged warehouse facilities, an apartment block, and a retail outlet in the Kyiv region. Meanwhile, in the southeastern city of Kryvyi Rih, a separate jet-powered drone attack on an industrial business injured two individuals, according to local officials cited by Reuters.

Further south, a Russian strike triggered a fire at a terminal operated by private courier Nova Poshta in the Odesa region, according to regional governor Oleh Kiper.

Deadly Arsenal Blast Stokes Civilian Outrage

The escalation follows a devastating strike on Friday, when a Russian attack on an ammunition depot in Ukraine sparked massive secondary explosions, killing 38 people, according to BBC and CNN reports. The incident prompted renewed local anger regarding the proximity of military storage sites to civilian populations, as noted by The Guardian.

Supply Chains and Logistics Under Siege

Both Ukraine and Russia have increasingly targeted economic and logistics infrastructure to strain supply chains. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated on Sunday that Russia launched nearly 1,500 drones at Ukraine over a four-day span, with more than half powered by jet engines, aimed at wearing down the population amid a shortage of interceptor missiles capable of downing ballistic threats.

According to Reuters, Russian forces have systematically targeted warehouses belonging to premier supermarket chains, postal services, and home-goods stores across Ukraine.

Retaliatory Cross-Border Drone Campaigns

In response, Ukraine has expanded its own long-range drone campaign targeting Russian logistics and military coordination sites. Ukrainian operations recently targeted Russian vessels categorized as part of a sanctions-evasion “shadow fleet” and struck two Wildberries warehouses inside Russia. Additionally, a logistics hub in Russia’s Yekaterinburg came under a drone attack on Monday, local governors confirmed to Reuters.
