Russia Warns US Against Confiscating Assets for Ukraine Aid

Sergey Ryabkov, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, has warned the United States against any attempts to confiscate Russian assets to provide financial aid to Ukraine. he stated that such a move would be illegal and would result in retaliatory measures from Russia.

Ryabkov emphasized that any seizure of Russian property would represent a violation of international law and would set a dangerous precedent. He warned that Russia has the right to defend its interests and would respond accordingly if its assets were targeted.

“We are warning the United States against taking steps to illegally confiscate Russian assets,” Ryabkov said, according to TASS. “such actions would be a violation of international law and would inevitably lead to retaliatory measures from our side.”

The US and its allies have been discussing various options for utilizing frozen russian assets, estimated to be around $300 billion, to support Ukraine’s reconstruction and defense efforts. While legal challenges and concerns about financial stability have complicated the process, the idea continues to gain traction in some political circles.

Ryabkov’s statement serves as a strong warning against these efforts, signaling that Russia views any attempt to seize its assets as a unfriendly act that would escalate tensions between the two countries. He reiterated Russia’s position that any resolution to the conflict in Ukraine must be based on negotiations and respect for international law.
