Missile Strikes Hit Kyiv Substations and Kill Civilians Across Regions

Russian missile and drone attacks struck critical energy infrastructure across multiple Ukrainian regions, killing at least seven people on the Ukrainian side, according to regional authorities and reporting by rte.ie. Moscow’s forces targeted 28 substations and other critical energy facilities, depriving more than 500,000 people of electricity, heat, and running water, according to Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The strikes involved 149 Shahed-type drones—108 of them jet-powered—according to the Ukrainian Air Force cited by The Kyiv Independent. In the capital, a drone strike on an apartment building killed two people, while an 83-year-old man and an 81-year-old woman died outside Kharkiv. Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that 15 people were wounded in the capital, where metro infrastructure at the Pivdenny Bridge sustained damage that restricted traffic.

Diplomatic Talks in Saint Petersburg Follow Washington Envoys’ Meetings

The overnight bombardments unfolded shortly after US special envoy Steve Witkoff held talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Saint Petersburg, where President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner participated remotely. rte.ie reported that Mr Witkoff praised Mr Putin for releasing US citizen Stephen Hubbard, a retired English teacher in his 70s who had been detained for fighting for Ukraine.

US Stops Warning Ukraine of Ballistic Missile Threats

Diplomatic friction between Washington and Kyiv intensified as Ukrainian officials reported a sudden hiatus in advance US warnings regarding incoming ballistic missile threats. Energy Infrastructure Damage Mounts Across Four Ukrainian Regions

The coordinated aerial campaign caused widespread disruptions to public services as winter approaches. Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi reported that Russian forces struck power facilities in the Kyiv, Volyn, Odesa, and Mykolaiv regions, alongside civilian enterprises in at least two other areas, as noted by the Irish Examiner. In western Volyn Oblast, regional governor Roman Romaniuk stated that attacks injured two people and left 370,000 residents without electricity. In the northeastern region of Kharkiv, regional governor Oleh Syniehubov reported that glide bombs and drones struck settlements, injuring a 105-year-old woman and killing six people in a public park, according to The Guardian. In eastern Donetsk Oblast, regional governor Vadym Filashkin confirmed that attacks killed one person in Kramatorsk and injured six others across the region.
